The Ellisland Wild Garden celebrates the stunning scenery of Nithsdale and the poetry of Robert Burns. Now in its third year, the Wild Garden is the work of four of the Friends of Ellisland volunteers and is bursting with flowers and wildlife. The bluebells will be amongst the dancing campions in the Jewel Garden and Highland Mary’s birk is bursting with primroses, foxgloves and comfrey. 

Directions: Ellisland is signposted off the A76 half way between Holywood and Auldgirth. It is approximately six miles north of Dumfries and eight miles south of Thornhill.

Other details: The poetry of Burns which was inspired by the Nith will also feature on the day, performed, recited and even danced. Dalswinton House directly across the river will open too. Patrick Miller, the then of owner of Dalswinton owned Ellisland Farm at the time when Robbie Burns lived there. They were good friends and the joint opening is in recognition of this relationship.
