Lea Gardens, started in the early 1980s, now covers almost two acres. The plant collection, the largest north of Inverewe Gardens, consists of 1,500 different species and cultivars from all over the world, including phyto-geographic elements of collections of plants from New Zealand, South Africa and South America. Planted to provide all-year-round interest, it has been divided into a variety of habitats: woodland and shade, borders, wetland, raised beds and acid and lime lovers. A winner of the 2011 Shetland Environmental Award

Directions: From Lerwick take the A970 north, turn left at Tingwall onto the A971 past Weisdale along Weisdale Voe and up Weisdale hill. Coming down, Lea Gardens is on your right surrounded by trees.
