Smailholm Village Gardens

Smailholm Village Hall, Smailholm TD5 7PH
The Gardeners of Smailholm
This small rural village, centred around an ancient church and a historic 'farm town', boasts a number of gardens of the cottage variety with varying degrees of formality and maturity. They range from the ancient to new 'works in progress' and offer a combination of traditional and contemporary approaches - often in a single garden! While not having a formal group, the villagers embrace gardening and are at present planting the verges and returning the green spaces around the church to wildflowers. The village hall is famed for its teas, especially fine cakes and superb plant sales. All of the open gardens are within an easy walk of the hall, from which tickets can be obtained. Access to gardens is generally good, with most gardens being wheelchair friendly.

Directions: Smailholm is a small village between Earlston and Kelso on the B6397. From the centre of the village take the Gattonside road and then after 100 yards turn right into the village hall car park.
