This spring open day will feature egg painting and chocolate egg making activities, picnic lunches and Spring walks featuring the garden's impressive collection of rhododendrons, magnolias and other spring-flowering gems - and there will be some other surprises. The original Botanic Garden was founded by the University of St Andrews in 1889 in the precincts of St Mary's College. Originally a small garden, it now covers 18.5 acres and not only provides a wonderful space in which to relax and enjoy its beauty and atmosphere, but is also a scientific garden for teaching and research.

Directions: The garden is located on Canongate and is a 10/15 minute walk from the centre of St Andrews. Follow the signs from the town down Viaduct walk, which is a shared path for bikes and walkers. The 99C bus route goes past the garden and takes 5 minutes from the bus stop in St Andrews. The nearest train station is Leuchars on the 99 bus route. There is a free car park at the garden.
