Established in 1923, this independent allotment site is a tranquil and charming space. Hidden away in a built up area, the local community benefit from growing their own vegetables and fruit. Come and enjoy tea, homebaking and chat with our friendly plot holders.

The front of the house is on a busy town bus route, but the back of the house is in the country, with views to the Pentland Hills and over the adjoining Braidburn Valley Park. The garden shows what can be done on a steeply sloped site. Paths and steps join a variety of distinct areas and terraces, each with a different character. The aim is to have colour, contrast and interest all year round.

Whitburgh House Walled Garden
Pathhead, Midlothian

This contemporary, stylish one acre walled garden, 700 feet above sea level, is a lively forward looking and unexpected gem. The solidity and graphic quality of clipped foliage act as a foil for the many perennials, grasses, annuals, fruit and vegetables. A spiral path leads through an acre of white birches. There is also a variety of ponds and fine sculptures spread around 14 acres of policies. Whitburgh garden has featured recently in Gardens Illustrated and other publications.

Hunter's Tryst
95 Oxgangs Road, Edinburgh

Well stocked and beautifully designed mature, medium sized town garden comprising herbaceous and shrub beds, lawn, fruit and some vegetables, water features, seating areas and trees. This is a wildlife friendly garden that has been transformed from a wilderness 30 years ago and continues to evolve. The project for 2017 was the construction and planting of two raised beds in the front garden, so there's a lot more to see this year. This hidden treasure of a garden was featured on the Beechgrove Garden in June 2015 and on The Instant Gardener in June 2016.
