Description: Visit the gardens at Hospitalfield in Arbroath to be among the first to experience the new garden designed by Nigel Dunnett. The artist Patrick Allan-Fraser (1813-1890) remodelled a 13th-century hospital to create his 19th-century home in the Arts and Crafts style. The walled gardens have been cultivated since the early medieval period, from the medicinal garden and the orchard, to the Victorian passion for collecting ferns. This beautiful space, set against the red sandstone neo-Gothic architecture, has been comprehensively developed to a design by celebrated designer Nigel Dunnett, to tell the 800-year horticultural story of this extraordinary site.
