Description:
The extensive gardens at Lochside House are mainly informal with mixed areas of grassland and wooded areas. The RSPB nature reserve bounds the property giving lovely views over Loch Semple. There are several large drifts of snowdrops around the meandering tracks as well as rhododendrons and many mature trees. The garden slopes in many areas, with wooden steps and some log style bridges which could be slippery when wet. Stout footwear and care is essential. The house was acquired in 2025 by the Rokpa Trust to be set up as a Buddhist retreat with exciting development plans. The Shrine Room will be open to visitors.
Directions: Accessible from the A737 on the east side of the Roadhead roundabout access to Lochwinnoch (A760). There is limited parking at the house. The train station is a short walk from the RSPB reserve through which access can be gained and will be signed (waterproof footwear advised). The Glasgow Central/ Largs train runs direct to Lochwinnoch half-hourly.
Other details: Shoes will need to be removed for anyone wanting to enter the Shrine Room.
