SGS Supports Local Communities with Summer Allotment Openings
From 22 June to 27 July, four allotments will be opening under Scotland’s Gardens Scheme to support shared spaces and quality connections. These rented spaces provide an opportunity for anyone to grow fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers, and plants. It also gives people a chance to bond over a shared love of gardening while nurturing their community. You can show your support for this admirable cause by taking a visit to one of Scotland’s many beautiful allotments.
The benefits of allotments
Affordable plots of land are a valuable resource that improves a community’s quality of life and environmental wellbeing. Especially for those dealing with difficult circumstances, these spaces can offer respite and fulfill basic needs. Fruits and vegetables are full of beneficial nutrients that give energy and balance to any kind of lifestyle. Allotments provide accessibility to these important food groups that many may not be able to afford consistently.
They can also inspire people to take an interest in growing different types of produce or plants that can be used to benefit others in need. Cultivating a variety of food, herbs, and plants is a shared activity that will not only enrich the environment, but forge lifelong connections as well. The health and happiness allotments provide is a key cause that reflects our own core values. With additional support from charitable organizations such as Scotland’s Gardens Scheme, allotments can flourish and continue to supply and strengthen local communities.
