Teapot Trust And The Elsewhere Garden

The Elsewhere Garden will be opening for the first time with Scotland’s Gardens Scheme in 2025 on Sunday 8th June from 2 - 5pm, inviting visitors to escape into an imaginative corner of nature. Originally commissioned by Teapot Trust as a show garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2023, this landscape takes inspiration from artwork made by children that the charity serves. Teapot Trust believes in the mental health benefits of art therapy, a form of expression that allows young children to process their emotions and find joy in creation and connection.

The charity’s mission is to promote the importance of this concept in the lives of those with long-term health conditions. For children, understanding an illness and receiving treatment for it can be difficult to navigate. By providing necessary resources and support, such as community art therapy sessions and collaborations with other charities, Teapot Trust helps children to develop skills that will benefit them throughout their recovery process and beyond. This charity has worked with over 15,000 children alongside hospitals and support groups and continues to make a positive impact on families by fostering progression towards their health goals.

Themes of the charity’s values and mission are present throughout The Elsewhere Garden. The inventive work of garden and landscape designers Semple Begg reflects the bright colors and playful nature often found in young children’s drawings and paintings. Pink and orange candelabra primulas spread across the grounds, paired with a variety of grasses, ferns, and two Picea abies ‘Inversa’. Its original instalment also featured panels of artwork created by children who benefited from the services of Teapot Trust.

To adapt its theme to the current location at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, a variety of soundscapes accessed through QR codes will be offered to enhance the visitor’s experience. Activities for children to enjoy and plants for sale will also be provided.
