Designing a garden in challenging conditions

Caroline Critchlow has designed award winning gardens and is the resident gardening guru on BBC radio Orkney. She designed The Quoy of Houton - Winner of Gardeners' World Britain’s best challenging garden 2017 and listed in the top ten UK coastal gardens. Featured on BBC Beechgrove and in the book Island Gardens. The garden, which is now under new ownership, opens for Scotland’s Gardens Scheme along with Caroline’s new garden at Old Granary Quoy. Caroline also organises Orkney Garden Festival.

In this short series Caroline demonstrates how she makes the most of a difficult garden spot - a paved over parking, and turns it into a delightful spot in which to relax and admire the views over Scapa Flow. Follow her videos to see a fabulous design come together. We will share updates on this page over the next few weeks.
