Airdlin Croft

Ythanbank, Ellon AB41 7TS

Since 1983 the garden has been developed to be both attractive to wildlife and horticulturally interesting, while also providing fruit and vegetables. One of two polytunnels produces figs, peaches and pumpkins while the other houses a collection of hostas wrestling for space with seed-grown rhododendrons. Native trees form the backbone of the woodland garden, providing shelter for a range of shrubs and herbaceous plants from around the world. In the new windswept garden an embryonic shelterbelt is struggling to protect recent plantings. More details and photos can be found on the Airdlin website.

Directions: From the A948, three miles north of Ellon, take the left turn towards Drumwhindle. After another couple of miles take the second left towards Cairnorrie. Proceed for nearly a mile, ignoring the first Airdlin Croft at Coalmoss, and turn left at the first bend, go down our 300 yard track, parking is in the field at the bottom.
