A May visit to St Patrick’s House garden will be rewarded with a stunning display of rhododendrons, azaleas, heathers and shrubs. Created over a 50-year period, the grounds of this five-acre garden slope down to the River Clyde. Natural springs have been harnessed to create water features, a large contemporary pond with an arbour begs you to sit a while. Paths wind between beds of varied plantings and perennials, rockeries, and woodland plants, which all add to the magic of this unexpected gem.

Directions: A73 into Lanark, after the Police Station turn right into Friars Lane. At the bottom of the hill turn right onto St Patrick Road. The garden is a quarter of a mile on the left.
